STUND – A DEMOCRATIC MOMENT OF INTUITIVE SONIC COMMUNICATION AND CREATIVITY

STUND (swedish word for ”a moment”), invites people to create music and sounds together, based on improvisation. Since the projects start in 2009, over 800 people have been involved.


STUND is open for everyone to attend, no matter age or degree of musical knowledge. The projects strenght and benefits lies in the open attitude towards content and process, welcoming all sorts of sonic activity to take place in a safe and non-judging atmosphere. Everyone can take part just by beeing themself, with their own unique voice.


Set-up

STUND offers a varied set-up of instruments, objects and material, accessible for everyone to use. Participants are welcome to bring their own instruments or objects/material to use and explore sonically. There is no limitations for what could be treated sonically. Water, grand piano, didjeridoo, voice, ballons, sand, type-writer, electric guitar, saxophone, a metal sink and a bicycle is examples of things that have been used.


Process

When STUND starts, there is no people on stage, the participants are sitting in front of the stage, When someone gets an impulse to start some sonic activity, they are welcome to enter the stage, where they reside as long as they like. Then someone else gets up, then antoher... and so on, participants enter and leave the stage according to their impulses. There is no limitations for how many participants could be on stage at the same moment, nore is there any limitations for how few.


Duration

STUND lasts originally for 12 hours non-stop, letting the creation of sounds and sonic interaction arise, develop, deepen and transform. The workshop model lasts for 90 minutes and contain a 15 minute introduction, 60 minutes of ”doing STUND” and 15 minutes for questions/reflections.
